West Suffolk Hospital have undertaken the refurbishment of the x-ray and nuclear medicine departments at the Hardwick Lane site in Bury St Edmunds.
Previously, the departments were fragmented, and the scheme integrates offices and administration areas with the clinical areas. The Accident and Emergency Department was provided with an extension building, housing new x-ray equipment and associated viewing offices, providing 24 hour
x-ray facilities.
A new CT scanner has been installed improving diagnostic facilities within an environment that is more comfortable for staff and patients.
The internal environment has been enhanced with new lighting installations, improved fresh air supply facilities and local comfort cooling to patient waiting areas. Telephones, data and fire alarm systems have been replaced with the facility for future expansion, including a new clinical intercom system.
As part of a framework agreement, MLM were commissioned to undertake the services design for the modifications and improvements to the existing Day Surgery Unit, with the new Reception areas, treatment rooms and access to the new Eye Treatment Centre.
The Eye Treatment Centre comprises a two storey building, housing the Opthamology Department, including facilities for minor operations such as cataract surgery.
