Woodberry Down Kick Start 2, Hackney, London

- Client: Berkeley Homes (North East London) Ltd
- Architect: Hawkins Brown
- Market Sector: Residential
- Categories: Private Residential
- Services: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental
This Project forms the second phase of the £1b master-plan to regenerate the area to the north of the Stoke Newington reservoirs in Hackney. 220 social rented apartments are contained within 3 blocks up to ten storeys in height.
Key Features:
- London Underground tube lines running close to the buildings meant care had to be taken to prevent any load from the new foundations being transmitted to the tunnels and potentially causing damage.
- Piled foundations were designed with specialist slip liners to transfer the loads below the level of the tunnels.
- Measures also had to be taken to prevent noise from the tubes being transmitted into the buildings.
- Retention of an existing electrical substation within the footprint of the buildings.
- MLM provided pre-planning advice to Hawkins Brown in the form of Building Services and Civil and Structural Engineering and are currently working to the detailed design.
