The Wolfson Education Centre was designed as a focal point for meetings and conferences at the campus. It provides accommodation for new graduate level entry medicine course and the new Biomedical Sciences degree course.
The layout of fixed seating within the enlarged and two existing theatres required input from us to ensure these generally accorded with format and guidance contained in BS5588 Part 6 for places of assembly.
We provided a holistic approach to the buildings fire strategy, given that the facility was not just an educational facility but would be let out for external functions and therefore a license was required for the sale and consumption of food and alcohol on the premises and the fire strategy was affected by this as licensed premises have more onerous standards.
MLM were also able to advise on DDA versus Approved Document M/B in terms of dealing with wheelchair users within the context of means of escape in case of fire.
