Waste Transfer Station, Hinckley

- Client: Veolia

- Services: Civil Engineering
MLM undertook the structural, drainage and pavement design for the renovation of Hinckley Waste Transfer Station. The existing site handled waste transfer and metal recycling in open bays which were unsightly and allowed waste to escape.
A new Waste Transfer Station was designed by MLM to enable the current operations to be moved to a covered location. The building consisted of a steel frame with an arched roof, pushwalls to three sides and a recessed loading bay.
Externally the concrete pavement was extended to the rear of the site to allow the metals handling operation to be moved to a more suitable location. The drainage for the entire site was also upgraded including attenuation and pollution control systems.
Key Features
- Drainage design for no flooding in 100 year event including climate change.
- Reduced discharge rate from site for nil detriment on Network Rail culvert.
- Separation of roof and pavement run-off.
- Phased development to allow existing site operations to continue.
