This £10m new build school is a challenging project in two respects, a very short construction programme and unusual form of construction.MLM only started the design in December 2010 targeting a completion date of August 2011.
A ground improvement process, Vibro-compaction was chosen for the foundations to minimise excavations speeding up construction and removal of excavated material from site.
A cross laminated timber panel (CLT) system was selected for the structure . The system has advantages in terms of speed of erection and the CLT cross wall construction provides inherent overall stability.
