MLM Building Control were appointed to provide the Building Regulation Approval Service for the construction of 512 new units of student accommodation for post graduates.
The accommodation was split into 3 storey houses with 6 flats per storey; each storey also included a communal kitchen.
Our appointment included attending early design team meetings to provide Building Regulation advice whilst the design was evolving. This provided confidence that early design decisions complied with the Building Regulations and prevented the need to review or amend drawings to meet Building Regulation standards at later stages. We ensured that the Fire Officer was consulted at this early stage.
The project construction programme was 12 months: MLM Building Control made frequent site inspections during the substructure works and liaised with the Contractor throughout the project to ensure that the service benefited the Clients construction programme and ensured reasonable compliance with the Regulations.
