MLM provided the Building Services and Structural engineering for an 80 bed Care Home. The project involved the redevelopment of part of a demolished council housing estate site in a steep hillside location into a new 3-5 storey Extra Care Home for Sanctuary Housing Association.
The unusual shape and contour of the parcel of land provided complications for the build, but resulted in excellent views for the residents. The building is served via a biomass boiler designed to exceed the Local Authorities renewables requirement. This is interfaced with a traditional gas fired boiler which provides the remainder of the heating load.
The structure is predominantly of loadbearing masonry construction with areas of steel framing supporting precast floors, designed for disproportionate collapse. The unusual shape and contours of the parcel of land provided posed challenges for the both the foundation and the drainage schemes, but has resulted in a prominent multi level scheme with excellent views for the residents over Sheffield to the Peak District beyond.
MLM also provided Approved Inspector Building Control services.
