MLM Consulting Engineers in association with Hakes Associates were invited to take part in a footbridge design competition as part of a £100m Vineyard Gate development scheme in Colchester town centre.

The Ribbon Bridge was chosen as the preferred design concept by a panel of judges, following 3 weeks of public consultations.

The fluid form reflects the shape of the bending moments generated, providing maximum structural strength where it is needed most. Varying the section inertia optimises the use of materials as well as producing a stunning shape.
