MLM were appointed initially to produce a feasibility report and later the detailed design for a new Park and Ride facility to supplement the existing transportation system in Chelmsford. Initially the scheme is for 750 spaces, and phased to 1000 spaces, and finally 1500 spaces. Located on Essex Regiment Way to the north of the town it is proposed to be in place in 2010.
The site involves attenuation of surface water, advice on internal layout of parking area, incorporation of amended ECC parking standards, re-assessment of proposals for off-site highways and design of paving and levels.
Key Features:
- Multidisciplinary approach to the project including transportation, flood risk, drainage, structural, utilities, QS, highways, environmental, site investigation and architectural.
- Incorporation of lessons learnt by ECC from Chelmsford’s first Park & Ride in Sandon.
- Assessment of proposed traffic signals and realignment of existing roundabout to remove their necessity, whilst isolating dedicated left turn in.
