Materials Recycling Facility, Greenwich

Materials Recycling Facility

MLM provided structural, civil and building services consultancy advice for this project.

The main building comprises a 110m by 40m portal framed building containing the process components of the recycling facility including a bag splitter, picking cabins, trommel screen, plastics autosort (using infra-red light), overband magnet, eddy current separators and balers. The facility is capable of processing 50,000 tonnes per annum.

The steel portal frame is supported by reinforced concrete piled pad foundations. A steel-fibre piled floor was used for the ground floor.

Reinforced concrete push-walls were utilised in the unloading bay.

The external walls and roof comprised insulated composite cladding panels in order to reduce the sound being generated from within the building to the external environment.
