Located in Cambridge City Centre, forming part of the Market Square, the building is formed from two distinct parts: the Victorian (1880’s) ‘Old’ Hostel, formally a Hotel and a 1960’s rebuild of part of the existing building into the ‘New’ Hostel. The building has listed building status. The Ground Floor areas are occupied by Banking and retail units.
The Refurbishment contract is to remodel the internal spaces to provide ensuite student study bedrooms and level access throughout the common areas, making a more rational approach to stair access and the provision of an internal lift. The completed scheme will provide the College with 5 two bed flats, 20 Ensuite study bedrooms and 18 standard study bedrooms as well as two adjacent fellows flats all being refurbished to a high specification.
MLM provided the Structural, Building Services and CDM Coordinator consultancy advice for this project, producing full designs to tender and on site supervision.
