High Pressure Main Gas Pipe Bridge Inspections, Sheffield

- Client: National Grid

- Market Sector: Energy
- Services: Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering
MLM were commissioned by National Grid to carry out inspection and report on three high pressure gas main pipe bridges in Sheffield. National Grid were concerned that the pipe bridges had suffered damage in the severe flooding of Northern England in 2007.
A number of defects were noted, the worst of which was a large tree of historical interest that had grown around one of the gas pipelines. The tree had exerted a force on the pipeline that had been exacerbated in flood conditions, causing the pipeline to move at its bearings.
Key Features:
- Three pipe bridges in Sheffield, thought to be damaged during an extreme flooding event.
- The three pipe bridges were the subject of a structural inspection.
- Reports produced outligning the defects, likely causes, ongoing vulnerability and providing recommendations for remedial works.
