- Market Sector: Energy
- Services: Civil Engineering
MLM were commissioned by National Grid to inspect, assess and develop a repair scheme for a pipe bridge structure crossing the River Nene in Northampton. The pipe bridge supports a 600mm diameter high pressure gas main. The gas main was damaged during blast cleaning as part of a repainting scheme, necessitating a temporary pipe jacket repair. Furthermore, the supporting steelwork structures to both sides of the river showed signs of significant corrosion.
MLM inspected the structure and designed a repair scheme to address the corrosion issues and allow National Grid to carry out a permanent repair to the damaged gas main. MLM were subsequently asked to provide project management and contract administration duties for the project.
Key Features
- One supporting frame completely replaced.
- Repairs and sequence of working specified by MLM allowed for the erection of the new supporting structure around existing.
- Method of repair took account of the proximity of the gas main which remained live during the course of the works.
- Works safely completed to the satisfaction of National Grid.
