Berger Primary School

This strikingly modern school for 472 children replaced an existing facility, adjacent to the scheme.

In addition to the 15 classrooms, the school was designed internally to allow for an increased number of classrooms to suit the needs of the school by the provision of demountable screening and partitioning.

MLM worked closely with Studio E to ensure fire safety was of the highest standard, without compromising the client’s need for future flexibility of layout.

The building was designed to achieve a BREEAM Schools 2006 “excellent” rating. To achieve this, the school incorporates Photovoltaic cells, small wind turbine and a green roof; the structure of the building is timber and is sourced from the Programme for the Endorsement of the Forest Certification (PEFC) which certified that each 1m³ of timber panel stores approximately 0.8 tonnes of carbon.
