A purpose built Primary Care Unit and Family Health Centre delivered under the Medway LIFT on a restricted site in the centre of Gillingham.
The building has been simply planned within the cost parameters of the LIFT initiative in order to be financially viable, whilst meeting exacting energy targets with 10% renewables.
The building houses two doctors’ practices comprising 9 consulting rooms, 3 treatment rooms and a minor operations suite on one floor. A further floor is given to general treatment facilities for specialist dental, podiatry, speech therapy, family planning and physiotherapy clinics.
Public waiting areas are sited centrally on each floor simplifying public access and placing the treatment and consulting rooms around the building perimeter so that they benefit from natural light and ventilation.
As Approved Inspectors MLM were actively involved at an early stage of preliminary design to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations and ancillary legislation, particularly fire safety issues, access and facilities and holistic Part L considerations.
