The development comprised a single storey complex housing administration and offices together with a range of workshop facilities to service, repair and maintain aircraft and adjacent a new hangar designed to accommodated Hercules and 767-300 aircraft.
Separate workshops accommodated structural repairs, corrosion protection including paint spraying facility, hydraulics and there was also a parachute shop incorporating a drying tower and a wheel and tyre bay. MLM undertook investigations and earthworks materials assessments to determine suitability of made ground for re-use, this approach to sustainability played an important part in winning the project with made ground excavated, screened and recompacted to maximise use of recycled material and minimise the use of imported material.
The aircraft hangar is a 60m clear span lattice girder structure incorporating a 28m span 12.5 tonne overhead crane together with mansafe access equipment and an AFFF sprinkler protection system.
