MLM provided the value engineering design innovation for Phase 2 of this RIBA Stirling Prize 2008 winning scheme. The Award is run in association with The Architects’ Journal and is presented to the architects of the building which has been the most significant for the evolution of architecture in the past year. The Stirling judges awarded it the prize as the one scheme they felt could push things forward in a very ordinary way: an exhilarating project which adhered to the tenets of modernism, delivering light and fresh air at high density. The values of Accordia are those British cities need more of: a subtly controlling masterplan, a collaborative approach and an eye for both the detail and the big picture in the landscape and the architecture.
