The 'Daley Effect' hits Southend Diving Centre

Southend Diving and Swimming Centre

Southend Diving and Swimming Centre

Date added: 1 August 2012

It’s not just adults that are drawn to following the Olympic games - with the school holidays on, children are hooked too. And the higher a sport’s profile, the more young people want to join their local club. It’s already having an impact on the world of diving.

Southend Diving and Swimming Centre is really benefiting from the Olympics. This is the centre where Tom Daley and his Team GB colleagues have been training for London 2012, and, despite Monday’s heartbreak for Daley as he missed out on the gold, it’s not detracted from those who want to be just like him.

The pool’s diving programme is really benefiting, with participation levels at an all time high as many children of all ages and backgrounds are inspired by Daley.

MLM’s Structural, Civil and Geotechnical engineers were involved in the design of the award winning swimming facility, which includes an 8-lane 25m competition pool, world class diving pool with 10m board, leisure pool and dry dive facilities.

The Centre, at Garon Park, off Eastern Avenue, Southend, beat off tough competition in 2011 to win the Best Technical Design and Construction award at the LABC East Anglia’s Building Excellence Awards.
