In 1966 David Maddocks & John Lusher formed a Structural Engineering Consultancy partnership based in Ipswich. Maddocks & Lusher built up a reputation amongst their clients, fellow construction professionals and contractors for a 'superior quality service'. Joined by Colin Matthews in 1972 the newly titled Maddocks Lusher and Matthews grew steadily and in 1992 opened offices in Cambridge and Chelmsford.

In 1996 the MLM Group was formed and now has eight UK offices; Ashford, Birmingham, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich, Norwich, London and Thames Valley employing over 200 staff (and growing!)

MLM incorporates three operating companies including MLM Consulting Engineers Ltd and MLM Building Control Ltd (formed in 1998). These divisions enable MLM to offer a complete engineering and building control consultancy package to clients in both the public and private sectors.

Working on a national basis MLM is now one of the largest regionally based consulting engineering practices providing a range of services in:
