What does sustainability mean to MLM?

At MLM, we have recently looked at our own approach to sustainability and see three core principles which we are focussing on to reduce our own environmental impact and to engage with our client and other stakeholders.

Sustainability Services
Helping our clients take a strategic view of sustainable development and meet their legal and contractual obligations for the sustainability performance of their developments.

Integrated Sustainability
Looking at the structural, civil and M&E engineering options to integrate sustainability into building design and construction, considering issues such as embodied carbon, materials recycling options and renewable energy sources.

Internal Sustainability
Making sure that our own performance is addressed and that we consider: our own impact on the environment, the welfare of our staff and the role that MLM’s plays in our local communities around the UK and beyond.

Ultimately our aim is to embed sustainability in everything that we do. As engineers, much of our focus is on the built environment – but we don’t just look at the design process; we support our clients throughout feasibility, concept, planning, construction, building operation and, ultimately, demolition. We understand that, when planning a development, the earlier that sustainability issues are considered, the quicker, easier and cheaper it will be to develop an efficient, low-carbon building.
